For many home users, the world of electronic entertainment systems is awash in
jargon and conflicting information. Do you buy a plasma big screen TV or an LCD. Is it time to
buy a hi-definition video player yet? The good news is that the smoke is starting to clear, prices
are becoming more reasonable on those must-have items, and the high-definition video format war is
over and Blu-Ray won. Here are some online sources of advice and general information on buying
televisions, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, and home theater systems and other computer equipment, accessories,
and accessories for the home.
Best Buy
Well-known retail electronics chain, specializes in big screen HDTV's. Some
locations include Magnolia A/V stores. High pressure sales team pushes service
contracts. Their Geek Squad in-home service is a comfort for the novice user
who needs someone to install their new big screen TV or home theater system.
Circuit City
Electronics retailer. Definitely #2, but I've always found them to have good customer service.
Never had a problem with returns or rebates. They are stingy about their price
matching policies, so do your homework before shopping there. Their Firedog in-home
service is ranked higher than The Geek Squad by some surveys.
DVD Talk
A combination online forum and online review site that will keep you informed on the
world of home electronics. The weekly Email newsletter will keep you up to date on
new releases on home video, new equipment reviews, and also usually includes several bargains.
Please feel free to suggest other websites that concern televisions, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, and Dolby home theater systems.
